To the honor of God and in memory of George Rake, Architect, Portsmouth
this window was erected by his friends. Easter Day 1886.


 
Further Information
George Rake was one of the most important of the Victorian architects. He worked with Thomas Ellis Owen before setting up his own practice. His star apprentice was Arthur Edward Cogswell and together they were responsible for such buildings as Kingston Prison.
 
George Rake is buried in Highland Road Cemetery. The inscription on the gravestone is as follows:-
