Though most of the Monmouth's crew were Devonport men, there was a Royal Marine band from Portsmouth on board.

Of those musicians whose ages are known Albert Augarde was 20, Thomas Aylward 20, Walter Balls 18, George Bennett 23, Albert Bradshaw 20, William Buckingham 18, Alfred Carver 18, Frederick Davis 22, William Hart 19 . . . . .

They must have played as Monmouth steamed out of Devonport on 4 August. Whether they ever performed again is not recorded.
