Further Information
The unveiling of this memorial was reported in the Hampshire Telegraph on Monday October 10, 1825. It was stated that "A very handsome and elegant sepulchral Monument, executed by Craven of Kingston, has been put up in the Chancel of the parish church of Portsea, to the memory of the late Rev. Dr. Gauntlett, Warden of New College, Oxford, and for 38 years Vicar of Portsea - This memorial has been erected at the expense of his successor in the Vicarage, the Rev. C.B. Henville, as a grateful record of the judicious and useful benefaction of his predecessor to the Living of Portsea".
