FOR SAFE KEEPING UNTIL SUCH
TIME AS A NEW ROYAL NAVAL
BARRACKS CHURCH IS BUILT

According to the Guide to St Ann's Church, these colours were '....flown at HQ Allied Naval Command Expeditionary force at Ste Germain-en-Laye when the German Armed Forces surrendered unconditionally on 7 May 1945'
