ARE GIVEN TO THE GLORY OF GOD AND IN MEMORY OF
LIEUTENANT HENRY TRYON 1st Battalion RIFLE
BRIGADE WHO FELL IN THE CRIMEA WHILE IN COMMAND
OF THE GALLANT AND SUCCESSFUL ATTACK AGAINST
THE RUSSIAN RIFLE PITS ON THE 20th OF NOVEMBER 1854

The standards mentioned are no longer hanging in the church.
 
Lt.Tryon led the Rifle Brigade in their successful attack on the Russian Rifle Pits during which action he was killed.
 
According to Colborne and Brine in "The Last of the Brave", Tryon's name appears on a monument on Cathcart's Hill in the Crimea, erected by Officers and Men of the 1st Btn. Rifle Brigade. He is buried close by under a Portland Stone slab on which the inscription reads "Sacred to the memory of Lieut. Henry Tryon, Rifle Brigade, Killed in action, on 20th November 1854."
